SO, IF IT’S NOT ABOUT BEES, WHAT DOES
 B CORP MEAN?

It’s a great question. The B Corporation is a company who analyses the good that a company does and quantifies this across 5 key areas of the business;

Community, Environment, Workers, Customers and Governance.

As a company we were given a score out of 200, with a high pass mark goal. In essence, this means that we had to show a high level of good practices in all areas of our business in order to get this amazing accreditation and be a force for good.

WHAT DOES THIS
 MEAN FOR US AT NEWGROUND?

Having set up as an Impact Business in 2018, being a company for good is second nature to us. This certification is an extension and reinforcement of the way we have set about building our business.

It has also strengthened areas that fall outside of our social impact of giving second chances to ex-offenders, such as strengthening our environmental credentials and making sure we are great employers.

WHY DID IT TAKE SO LONG?

Interestingly, it was our social impact which meant the process took 2 and a half years rather than the standard 1year to complete.

Our impact of hiring and re-training ex-offenders wasn’t compatible with the way that hiring out of prisons were assessed and was seen as a negative. Fortunately, we were allowed to be instrumental in a re-thinking of how companies who hire prisoners were assessed and have turned it into a real positive.
